ABOUT HAL

The Company was founded by Michael Harvey and Brian Ashby, both Fellows of the Association of Average Adjusters having qualified by stringent examination. 

They were joined in 2009 by Tristan Miller, who qualified as a Fellow of the Association of Average Adjusters in 2014. 

Their extensive experience enables them to deal with all aspects of marine and energy claims including casualty management, the determination of the validity of any claim and the quantification of claims.

Membership of the AAA necessitates adherence to a strict code of ethics and a requirement to deal with all matters in an independent and professional manner. 

Michael Harvey

Michael qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute in 1975 and as a Fellow of the Association of Average Adjusters in 1978; in 2004/5 he served as Chairman of the Association and in 2013/15 as President of Association Mondiale de Dispacheurs (AMD), the International Association of Average Adjusters. 

Michael has a very broad experience of all varieties of marine insurance claims and general average. He also has extensive experience of claims arising from offshore oil & gas exploration and development activities. He has also handled risk management issues for companies involved in the marine, oil & gas, and petrochemical industries. 

Michael is the co-author with Geoffrey Hudson of The York-Antwerp Rules (3rd Edition) – 2010. He served on the CMI International Working Group leading to adoption of the York-Antwerp Rules in 2016. 

Michael's interests include restoring agricultural machinery, equestrian sport and astronomy.

Tristan Miller

Tristan graduated from Southamption University in 1997 with a Joint Honours degree in Economics and Actuarial Studies. His insurance career started in 2001 with Brit Insurance and he qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute in 2006. Tristan joined Harvey Ashby in 2009 and after satisfying the examiners in all six modules of the exams qualified as a Fellow of the Association of Average Adjusters in May 2014.  

Tristan was elected Treasurer of the Association of Average Adjusters in May 2015 and serves on the Committee of Management.  

Tristan has experience of adjusting general average and all varieties of marine insurance claims; including hull & machinery, cargo and loss of earnings. 

Tristan's interests include sailing, golf, hockey and gardening.
